Join the campaign to raise the minimum wage for the lowest-paid workers in our country.
Ottawa (14 April 2016) — Rallies will be held on April 15 in cities across Canada to continue the pressure on government to raise the minimum wage to $15 per hour.
The Fight for $15 campaign started in New York City in 2012 by workers in the service industry. It wasn't long until the campaign caught on in different industries — fast food, retail, home care, airport, child care and contract instructors — with protests and walkouts by workers to show their commitment to the fight for a good wage.
Campaign to increase the minimum wage gains momentum
The movement eventually jumped the border into Canada and workers in similar industries started campaigning for an increased minimum wage. Since then, the idea has heated up with governments being pressed to introduce legislation to make this happen.
There have been several successes across the country so far, but there is still more to do.
A National Day of Action will be taking place April 15 country-wide in an effort to draw attention to the need for higher minimum wages and decent working conditions in Canadian workplaces.
There are many groups organizing for this Day of Action. Check out listings near you to see how you can participate and support the campaign for decent wages and decent work.
