'We will be giving the employer notice to immediately commence collective bargaining.'
St. John's (27 Jan. 2011) - The Newfoundland and Labrador Association of Public and Private Employees (NAPE/NUPGE) has been certified as the bargaining agent for employees with Quality Home Care.
Quality Home Care operates from Bay Bulls to St. Shotts on the Southern Shore of the Avalon Peninsula.
“NAPE continues to actively organize home care agencies," says union president Carol Furlong.
"To date we have organized 20 agencies with a total of 2,806 employees. It is NAPE’s objective to continue to make positive gains at the bargaining table for home care workers."
Furlong says NAPE is "extremely pleased" at the confidence Quality Home Care employees have shown in NAPE.
"We will be giving the employer notice to immediately commence collective bargaining with the aim of reaching a collective agreement in the near future," Furlong says.
NAPE represents the majority of home care workers in Newfoundland and Labrador and is aggressively continuing in its attempts to organize other home care agencies.
