The vast majority of NAPE/NUPGE public sector collective agreements are set to expire on March 31.

“We have expended considerable energy to ensure our union is in the best shape in its history in preparation for the upcoming round of collective bargaining. We are on solid financial ground and we have great support from our members,” said NAPE President Carol Furlong.

“We are ready to get to the bargaining table to negotiate collective agreements that reflect the value of the vital services our members provide to the people of Newfoundland and Labrador.”

NAPE/NUPGE will be bargaining for over 20,000 public service employees in the upcoming negotiations. These members work in areas such as healthcare, education, general services, transportation, corrections, liquor stores, arts and culture centres, workers compensation, group homes and air services.

“While we anticipate a difficult round of bargaining, we are confident that we can achieve collective agreements that will allow the province to recruit and retain the skilled workers necessary to provide the highest possible level of service to the people of the province,” stated Furlong. “The reality is that Newfoundland and Labrador is experiencing an unprecedented level of economic prosperity and we expect our members to share in that prosperity.”
