Most employees of Mountain View Estates to receive 50% raises over for years plus significant improvements in benefits.
St. John's - Employees of Mountain View Estates, represented by the Newfoundland and Labrador Association of Public and Private Employees (NAPE/NUPGE), have ratified a new collective agreement that includes raises of up to 50% for most workers and an enhanced benefits package.
NAPE president Carol Furlong says all but three of the 22 retirement home workers affected will receive a pay raise of $4.50 an hour over four years, the equivalent of a 50% increase. The remaining three will receive increases ranging from 46% to 42%.
The contract is retroactive to October 2009.
Significant gains were also made in benefits and contract language. Workers achieved a 100% increase in shift differential, paid meal breaks on night shift, additional sick leave and payment for unused sick leave, an extra paid statutory holiday, additional time off for bereavement leave, payment for attending first aid training and improvements in call back provisions.
"These are significant increases and improvements for a group of workers in an industry which is steadily growing. Mountain View Estates is a long term residential facility located in Corner Brook.
