NAPE ratifies Canadian Blood Services agreement

'We hope that these benefits will set a new template for collective bargaining in the future.' - Carol Furlong.

St. John’s (26 March 2009) - Members of the Newfoundland and Labrador Association of Public and Private Employees (NAPE/NUPGE) who are employed by Canadian Blood Services have voted to accept a new four-year contract.

NAPE president Carol Furlong says the deal contains significant gains over the previous contract.

In addition to wage increases of 8%, 4%, 4% and 4% annually (retroactive to April 1, 2008) workers will also receive an increase in shift premiums, a weekend premium, paid leave for medical appointments, two additional days of family leave, an employer-paid extended health plan, an increase in the uniform allowance and an additional pay raise for two classifications. The contract runs until March 31, 2012.

"NAPE continues to negotiate unprecedented benefits for members and we hope that these benefits will set a new template for collective bargaining in the future," Furlong says.

NAPE represents approximately 70 employees of Canadian Blood Services located in St. John’s, Grand Falls-Windsor and Corner Brook. Canadian Blood Services is a not-for-profit organization whose mission is to manage the blood and blood products supply for Canadians.
