NAPE members reach tentative settlements: Corrections and WHSCC

Negotiations bring improvements to NAPE/NUPGE members.

St. John's (12 Mar. 2014) — Two groups of workers represented by the Newfoundland and Labrador Association of Public and Private Employees (NAPE/NUPGE) reached tentative settlements for new collective agreements. NAPE/NUPGE members who work as correctional officers reached an agreement which needs to be ratified in the coming days.

According to NAPE President Carol Furlong, there was considerable discussion at the bargaining table over operational issues in corrections. These matters have now been resolved. The tentative agreement is based on the template agreement for public sector workers, which includes significant increases in shift differential and weekend premiums as well as improvements in contract language.

A tentative collective agreement was negotiated for teh 292 NAPE/NUPGE members who work for the Workplace, Health, Safety and Compensation Commission (WHSCC). The agreement is also based on the template from the public sector workers' agreement with additional improvements in monetary and other contract language.

Furlong stated, “NAPE was pleased that all concessions were removed by the employer in order to reach a deal”.

WHSCC has officers located in Corner Brook, Grand Falls-Windsor and St. John’s. Details of the tentative agreement will be released to members at the ratification meetings.
