St. John's (05 Feb. 2014) — Voting has concluded for public sector workers in the marine services bargaining unit of the Newfoundland and Labrador Association of Public and Private Employees (NAPE/NUPGE). Votes took place province-wide over the past two weeks.
NAPE/NUPGE members support improvements in new collective agreement
Marine Services members voted 71 per cent in favour of accepting the agreement. The group had previously voted to reject the agreement that was brought before them in October 2013 due to some operational issues, such as scheduling. These issues have since been addressed.
“We are very pleased to reach this result,” said NAPE President Carol Furlong. “We worked to address the operational issues that were causing concerns for the marine services members. In the end, we were successful in that effort which is evident in the recent vote results for this group."
Negotiations have concluded for 12 public sector bargaining units, three groups still at the table
This concludes voting for the twelve public sector bargaining units. NAPE/NUPGE is currently at the bargaining table for members employed by Workplace Health, Safety and Compensation Commission as well as Correctional Officers.
