"We have two messages coming out of government." — Carol Furlong, NAPE President.
St. John's (25 Jan. 2013) — Important questions are being raised in a new ad campaign launched by the Newfoundland and Labrador Association of Public and Private Employees (NAPE/NUPGE).
The television commercial, to be broadcast, across the province asks why the government is bent on cutting quality public services when it keeps saying Newfoundland and Labrador is a "have" province.
Newfoundlanders are shown asking, "If our economy is stronger than ever, why are our young still leaving? "And if the future has never been brighter, why are they asking us to tighten our belts?"
The Newfoundland government has already made major cuts to health care services and the public has been put on guard for more cuts and layoffs to come down the line.
NAPE President Carol Furlong said Premier Kathy Dunderdale cannot have it both ways.
"You can't go to one group when you talk to the business groups and say, 'it's a great time of economic prosperity, we're making very sound investments and things are looking good for the future,' and then come back to us and say, 'We have no money, the cupboard is bare,' " Furlong told CBC News.

NAPE/NUPGE has launched the ad campaign as a way to inform the public what the government is doing and what its decisions will mean for families across the province.
