“Our union continues to grow in the private sector. Workers see our union as a champion for their rights, better pay and benefits, improved health and safety standards, and for better overall working conditions.” — Jerry Earle, NAPE President
St. John's (05 April 2018) — The Newfoundland and Labrador Association of Public and Private Employees (NAPE/NUPGE) has been certified by the Labour Relations Board as the bargaining agent for workers at the Alt Hotel in St. John’s. Workers voted overwhelmingly in favour of having NAPE/NUPGE as their bargaining agent.

There are currently 20 employees working at the hotel. This number will grow in-season and as on-site operations ramp-up. The hotel, featuring 148 rooms in downtown St. John’s, is part of a Canadian, family-owned chain of hotels.
NAPE/NUPGE now represents workers at 3 hotels in St. John’s: The Comfort Inn-Airport, The Quality Hotel Harbourview, and the Alt Hotel.
“We are happy to welcome workers at the Alt Hotel to our NAPE/NUPGE family,” said Jerry Earle, NAPE President. “Our union continues to grow in the private sector.
