NAPE awards 22 scholarships totaling $11,000 to students across the province

“We are delighted to offer these scholarships each year to recognize the outstanding talent of the youth of our province and our union,” said NAPE President Carol Furlong.

 

St. John’s (01 Nov. 2013) – The Newfoundland and Labrador Association of Public and Private Employees (NAPE/NUPGE) has awarded 22 scholarships totaling $11,000 to students pursuing a post-secondary education. The union annually awards scholarships to children and dependents of NAPE/NUPGE members pursuing a post-secondary education. Each scholarship is valued at $500.

“We are delighted to offer these scholarships each year to recognize the outstanding talent of the youth of our province and our union,” said NAPE President Carol Furlong. “I congratulate each of the scholarship recipients and wish them the very best as they move forward with their educational pursuits.”

“I would also like to congratulate Michael Kennedy of Spaniard’s Bay, son of NAPE member John Kennedy, who won the National Union of Public and General Employees (NUPGE) Tommy Douglas Scholarship for his essay on how Tommy Douglas contributed to making Canada a more just and equitable society,” continued Furlong.

Recipients of this year’s scholarships are:

  • Emmanuel Strickland Scholarship: Maria Mullaly (Happy Valley-Goose Bay)
  • Max Dyke Scholarship: Kerry-Lynn Morry (Bay Bulls)
  • Judge Wm. Browne Scholarship: Sarah Andrews (Gander)

Andrew Rideout (Corner Brook), Cyrstal Acreman (Happy Valley-Goose Bay), Stephanie Primmer (Lewisporte), Victoria Blackmore (Gander), Jessica Morgan (Harbour Grace), Devin Doyle (St. John’s), Rebecca Raymond (Goulds), Katherine Hillier (St. Lunaire-Griquet), Erica-Lynn Strong (Clarenville), Michael Kennedy (Spaniard’s Bay), Terri-Lynn Hoskins (New Harbour), Zara Matthews (St. John’s), Marisa O’Brien (Deer Lake), Andrea Deer (Mt.
