Minister Bennett seeks BCGEU input on Core Review of government services

Minister willing to listen to expertise of public service workers.

Vancouver (09 Oct. 2013) - Darryl Walker, President of the B.C. Government and Service Employees' Union (BCGEU/NUPGE) met on October 4 with Bill Bennett, Minister Responsible for Core Review. The meeting was an opportunity to provide initial BCGEU/NUPGE input in what will be an ongoing consultation.

BCGEU/NUPGE provides valuable input to Minister on review

“The minister reiterated today that the core review process is not designed to reduce the size of provincial public service which he acknowledges is already the leanest in Canada,” says Darryl Walker. “He also commended the hard work, commitment and expertise of the women and men who deliver public services in our province. Just as important, he expressed a willingness to tap into the expertise of our members and listen to their ideas as he conducts his review.”

The BCGEU/NUPGE is preparing a detailed submission for the minister that will include concrete ideas to increase the efficiency of the delivery of government services, generate more provincial revenue, create more productive workplaces for our members and deliver value to British Columbians.

The union will keep members informed as the core review process continues and will be seeking the input of members.

Minister Bennett is expected to complete his review by March 2014.
