Winnipeg (09 July 2021) — Members of the Manitoba Ombudsman, Local 457, are the latest Manitobans to unionize with the Manitoba Government and General Employees' Union (MGEU/NUPGE).
New MGEU/NUPGE members get started on negotiating a first contract
Manitoba Ombudsman conducts independent, impartial, and non-partisan investigations regarding access to information and privacy matters, the fairness of government actions or decisions, or serious wrongdoings.
It is an independent office of the Legislative Assembly of Manitoba and is not part of any government department or agency.
A labour certification vote was held from June 25 until June 28. The vote was the first electronic vote the MGEU/NUPGE had with the Labour Board (Simply Voting) and was a success.
The next step for the new members is to elect a local executive and bargain their first contract.
