Winnipeg (23 Nov. 2010) - After six months at the bargaining table, members of the civil service master bargaining committee of the Manitoba Government and General Employees' Union (MGEU/NUPGE) have concluded portions of a new collective agreement apart from monetary issues.
Issues covered include matters such as working conditions and rights on the job.
"Discussions (with the employer) have now moved on to wages, benefits and pensions," MGEU says in an update posted on its website.
"Management has tabled an offer and the committee is currently in the process of preparing a counter-offer. Needless to say, this had been a difficult bargaining climate."
The bargaining committee is negotiating for a diverse workforce made up of eight different MGEU components.
"Their priority is always to ensure the very best deal for all," MGEU says. "The committee appreciates members' continued patience and support and will be posting other updates on the union website in the coming weeks.
