“In many ways, it’s an interesting contract to bargain because there are so few comparators to what these members do.” — Michelle Gawronsky, MGEU President
Winnipeg (14 April 2016) — The flight instructors who train Canada's military pilots, members of the Manitoba Government and General Employees' Union (MGEU/NUPGE), voted in favour of a new 5-year collective agreement.
Negotiating improvements for the "best of the best"
“We’re proud to have these members based out of Southport, Manitoba, because they really are the best of the best,” said Michelle Gawronsky, MGEU President. “In many ways, it’s an interesting contract to bargain because there are so few comparators to what these members do.”
Highlights of the agreement between MGEU/NUPGE and Allied Wings that will be in effect March 20, 2016 to March 19, 2021 include wage increases equivalent to the cost of living and bonus increases based on number of flights or training opportunities completed. New language was also negotiated that protects bargaining unit work and limits how much work can be done by out of scope employees.
