First collective ratified for new MGEU/NUPGE health care members.
Winnipeg (13 July 2012) - Following early morning voting with additional voting late in the afternoon on July 9, members of the Manitoba Government and General Employees' Union (MGEU/NUPGE) working at Southeast Personal Care Home ratified a first collective agreement.
This contract will be in place until the end of September 2012, when the Local will join the central bargaining table for Health Care Support Services. Having this six month contract ensures that the basic rights, including union representation rights and a grievance procedure, are in place in the interim.
The bargaining committee was very pleased with the outcome and strong support from the membership. The Union will now move very quickly to get the contract signed, printed and into the hands of the membership.
