Winnipeg (02 March 2016) — On February 27, members of the Manitoba Deaf Centre — most of whom work in building and maintenance — voted to ratify a new four-year agreement with the employer.
Workers at the Deaf Centre negotiate improvements to collective agreement
The Bargaining Committee held a meeting in early 2015 with members to gather ideas and proposals to improve their collective agreement. They then compiled the proposals into a comprehensive package to present to the employer. The Bargaining Committee and the employer exchanged proposal packages in December 2015.
The new contract, which covers the period from March 31, 2015 to March 31, 2019, includes a significant improvement to vacation leave. Members will now have more flexibility in how they can take their vacation, no longer having to take time off in extended blocks.
