Two years of negotiations resulting wage increases and some market adjustments for professors.
Winnipeg (07 April 2014) — Members of the Manitoba Government and General Employees' Union (MGEU/NUPGE) who are employed by the Université de Saint-Boniface (USB) as professors have ratified a new four-year collective agreement.
After two years of negotiations and on the verge of a strike, MGEU/NUPGE members settle contract with University
Negotiations began almost two years ago, and in March it appeared that members would be headed to the picket lines, as the USB professors felt that the employer wasn’t doing enough to close the wage gap between them and professors working at other Manitoba universities. After the union achieved a strike vote and set the strike date for March 17, the two parties met several times in order to avert the strike and keep USB professors off the picket line.
The new agreement includes a two per cent wage increase in each of the four years as well as market adjustments in several classifications. MGEU/NUPGE is pleased to have reached an agreement for employees and without having had a work stoppage.
Once the agreements for the other two MGEU/NUPGE locals at USB are ratified, finalized copies of the agreements will be printed and distributed to all members.
