MGEU convention gets underway today

Delegates representing more than 200 union locals from across Manitoba are scheduled to attend.

Winnipeg (22 Oct. 2010) - The biennial convention of the Manitoba Government and General Employees' Union (MGEU/NUPGE) gets underway today at the Winnipeg Convention Centre.

More than 200 locals across the province have elected delegates to attend the convention, which will establish policies and chart the direction of the union over the next two years.

Key sessions at the convention will include the election of officers, including the president and four vice-presidents, and voting on resolutions submitted by union committees, area councils, component executives and locals.

James Clancy, national president, addressed delegates on behalf of the 340,000-member National Union of Public and General Employees (NUPGE).
