MGEU Civil Service members vote on revised final offer

Voting on the final offer will commence on February 24 and end on March 10, 2011 in specific locations across the province or by mail-in ballot.

Winnipeg (22 Feb. 2011) Civil service bargaining unit members of the Manitoba General Employees Union (MGEU/NUGPE) will soon be voting on the revised offer from the provincial government. Voting packages were mailed to members on February 14 and 15, 2011.

After the tentative agreement was rejected by 35% of the membership, the bargaining committee returned to the table on February 2, 2011 to present a revised proposal which  included wage increases in the first two years of the four year agreement. The Government responded with its final offer, maintaining the position that there will be no general pay increases in 2010 and 2011.

The government did agree to extend the lay-off protection to non-seasonal departmental employees over the life of the agreement. As well, they agreed to ensure dental fee guides are kept current on an ongoing basis starting in 2012 and that kilometre reimbursement rates for employees will remain the same regardless of distance traveled, starting in 2013.

Voting on the final offer will commence on February 24 and end on March 10, 2011 in specific locations across the province. Members of the bargaining committee will be on hand at voting stations to answer any questions on the final offer package.

Ballots may also be mailed in. All ballots must be received by the MGEU Winnipeg office by Friday, March 11, 2011 at noon. Late ballots will not be counted.
