Cuts that hurt or services that help? MGEU campaign urges Premier to invest in public services

It's time to make a better choice in Manitoba.

Winnipeg (31 March 2022) — The Manitoba Government and General Employees' Union (MGEU/NUPGE) is ramping up the Keep Us Together campaign with new online/tv ads aimed at urging the government to invest in public services.

Results from cuts to public services are painfully obvious

Over the last 6 years, the Manitoba government has cut over 2,600 jobs from the civil service alone — nearly 20% of that workforce — and you can see the results. Manitoba’s families are experiencing longer wait times, more delays, and higher costs for the services we all need. There aren’t enough workers to support children, care for seniors, ensure our water, roads, and workplaces are safe.

The new ad, Manitoba’s Choice, reminds people that if we don’t choose stronger public services, our communities become more divided and make life harder than it should be.

“As Manitobans, we rely on our public services to support us, and we know the past 2 years have really driven this point home. It’s important that we make that connection with Manitobans, andremind them that when you short-change your public services, when you put profits over people, everyone suffers,” said Kyle Ross, MGEU President. “Investing in our public services is not only the best choice, as our ads says, it’s really the only choice we can make. We can’t afford to keep cutting and privatizing our services.”

The updated campaign will be running on TV and online across Manitoba over the next several weeks. Find out more by visiting KeepUsTogether.ca to watch Manitoba’s Choice and share the campaign message on social media.
