Metis and Michif CFCS members ratify first contract

Wage parity and improved recruitment process are among the highlights of new contract.

Winnipeg (24 Jan. 2014) – Members of the Manitoba Government and General Employees' Union (MGEU/NUPGE) who work at the Metis and Michif Child, Family and Community Services (CFCS) voted to accept their first union contract.

First collective agreement provides fixed terms, conditions and transparency in workplace for workers

The new two-year agreement covers approximately 370 members across the province and is effective immediately.  The collective agreement includes wage parity as well as a commitment to maintain wage levels with comparable positions in the provincial civil service. It also includes contract language to ensure a culturally sensitive recruitment process. But most importantly to Local 383, 384, 385, 422 workers, this first contract provides them with improved job security and the fixed terms, conditions and transparency in their workplace that only a negotiated collective agreement can provide.

The members at Metis and Michif CFCS are encouraged to update their contact information to ensure they receive a copy of the new contract once it is printed.
