Members at Saint Mary's University in Halifax take strike vote, head to conciliation

The union will be holding two information sessions for members to attend to ask questions about the strike vote and conciliation process.

Halifax (04 Feb. 2013) — A strike vote is the next step for members of the Nova Scotia Government and General Employees Union (NSGEU/NUPGE) working at Saint Mary's University after negotiations hit an impasse. Conciliation dates are set for February 11 but workers are hoping to head into those meetings with a strong strike mandate from the membership.

The union will be holding two information sessions for members to attend to ask questions about the strike vote and conciliation process. Joan Jessome, NSGEU President and Chief Negotiator will be in attendance to answer any questions members have.

Members are encouraged to be present at either sesssion on February 7, from 4:30 p.m. - 6 p.m. or on February 8 from 12 p.m. until 3:30 p.m. Both meetings and voting will take place in Theatre B, Burke Building at Saint Mary's campus.

If members cannot attend a full information session, they are encouraged to attend a portion to pose any questions and cast their ballot.
