More than 2,000 instructors and professional services employees have been without a contract for the past 18 months.
Regina (4 Jan. 2011) - Mediated contract talks are scheduled to begin this week between the Saskatchewan Government and General Employees' Union (SGEU/NUPGE) and the province's network of trades colleges.
SGEU and the Saskatchewan Institute of Applied Science and Technology (SIAST) agreed to mediation just before Christmas in an effort to resolve issues that have prevented them from reaching a new collective agreement.
The institution's 700 professional services staff and 1,300 instructors have been without a contract for almost 18 months.
The two sides have agreed to refrain from any withdrawal of services or lockout action while mediation is taking place.
