Ontarians urged to "Take a Stand" for youth mental health.
Toronto (5 May 2011) - Ontario Public Service Employees Union (OPSEU/NUPGE) child and youth treatment workers are asking communities to “Take a Stand” with youth, parents and families during Children’s Mental Health week.
The Ontario Action Network for Child and Youth Mental Health is a provincial coalition of youth, parents, service providers, unions and other partners committed to ending the crisis in child and youth mental health.
The Ontario Action network is asking the Liberal government to ensure that sustainable, long term funding bN directed to community agencies to close the “capacity gap” created after years of neglect.
In its 2011 budget, the Ontario government pledged $257 million for child and youth mental health services. This new funding must be directed to community agencies where the leadership is – at the local level where community agencies make the difference.
Events are taking place across the province to highlight the need for more dedicated resources to this sector.
