It has been proposed that October 1 each year will mark the day to recognize the work of conservation officers in Manitoba.
Winnipeg (31 May 2017) — On May 30, Michelle Gawronsky, President of the Manitoba Government and General Employees Union (MGEU/NUPGE), was in the Manitoba Legislative Building, where she joined conservation officers in listening to the second reading of Bill 226, The Manitoba Conservation Officers Recognition Day Act.
In the words of the act, “it is important to honour Manitoba’s conservation officers for their selfless work, and recognize that conservation officers deserve protection and support in carrying out their important enforcement duties.”
From this year forward, October 1 will be the day Manitobans will recognize all conservation officers and the great services they provide to the citizens of Manitoba. The bill was originally introduced by Alan Lagimodiere, MLA for Selkirk.
