Talks continue with new deadline set for Nov. 17 at three work sites in Eastern Ontario.
Toronto (16 Nov. 2010) - A last-minute return to the bargaining table has delayed a scheduled strike in Eastern Ontario at the Maisons de la famille, also known as Groupe Action pour l'enfant, la famille et la communauté de Prescott-Russell.
Originally set for Monday, the deadline has been extended to Wednesday morning, Nov. 17.
"Nobody wants a strike," says OPSEU representtive Paul Sharkey. "Progress has been made over the course of the day and we will be back to negotiate further."
After a group of parents took their concerns directly to the General Director, Yves Séguin, in a surprise visit on Friday, the employer agreed to return to the bargaining table. The two sides have agreed not to discuss issues publicly while they are at the table.
There are three work sites - in Hawkesbury, Embrun, and Rockland. There are also several satellite centres.
