OPSEU reaches 'historic tentative agreement' with the Liquor Control Board of Ontario (LCBO).
Toronto (24 June 2009) - The Ontario Public Service Employees Union (OPSEU/NUPGE) has reached an historic tentative agreement in contract talks with the Liquor Control Board of Ontario (LCBO).
“We set a goal in this round of bargaining that we would not settle for any deal unless it protected the livelihoods of our permanent staff and made measurable gains for the majority of our members who are struggling to make ends meet as casuals,” said OPSEU bargaining chair Vanda Klumper.
“We achieved both of those goals. The bargaining team is unanimous in recommending acceptance of this historic contract.”
Details of the settlement will be made available to OPSEU members at the LCBO in a bargaining bulletin shortly. The union is working on plans for a ratification vote to be held as soon as possible.
“I want to congratulate our bargaining team and every member of OPSEU's Liquor Board Employees Division (LBED) who worked so hard to achieve this contract,” said OPSEU president Warren (Smokey) Thomas.
“We had a well-crafted strategy that showed the employer, the public and our own members that during a recession the best thing we can do for our families and our communities is to protect and create good jobs.”
