Leadership review completed at Red River College

Winnipeg (22 Jan. 2015) — The Manitoba Government and General Employees’ Union (MGEU/NUPGE), which represents faculty and support staff at Red River College (RRC), is pleased the leadership review at RRC has been completed and is available for review by Manitobans.

MGEU/NUPGE requested leadership review after budget shortfall and istaff morale issues

In April, 2014, MGEU/NUPGE requested a leadership review citing concerns over a $2-million shortfall in the college's budget, the departure of several senior staff, exceedingly low morale among staff, and a lack of confidence in RRC's leadership.

“Our members were vocal in bringing their issues forward through their union, and it is clear from the review that many of their concerns were justified,” said MGEU President Michelle Gawronsky. “It is important now that we all continue to be vigilant and proactive as these recommendations are being implemented.”

As part of that process, Gawronsky indicated she would be in contact with elected members of the RRC Executive to examine the review in more detail and discuss any additional response from the union. 

“Our members want the best for Red River College now and in the future; they care about its reputation in the community; and they are invested in the quality of programs provided to students,” said Gawronsky. “We are willing to fully participate in any way we can to ensure those things are protected and maintained."
