Labour reps from around the globe attend UN climate meetings - Dec 1-12, 2008

An international coalition of labour groups calls for human rights, economic justice and science-based targets at the December 2008 UN meetings in Poznan.

Poznan, Poland (03 Dec.2008) - The 14th Conference of the Parties (COP14) to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) begins in Poznan, Poland this week. This meeting will draw around 9000 participants, including government delegates from the 185 signatory countries and representatives from business, unions, civil society, and industry.

In the last decade, trade unions have participated in UN climate meetings trying to ensure workers' participation in decision-making and to put in place employment transition in the struggle against climate change.

In 2007 Trade Unions created an ad hoc working group on climate change with diverse representation, in order to provide the necessary follow up to UNFCCC negotiations. A 16 page trade union statement to COP14 is complete and will be delivered this week to Poznan delegates.
