The 2017–2018 theme for the Purple Ribbon campaign looks at the power of bystanders. Don't stand by. Stand with.
Charlottetown (03 Nov. 2017) — It’s the season of purple!
The PEI Union of Public Sector Employees (PEIUPSE/NUPGE) is encouraging its members and the public to play a role in stemming violence against women and girls through participation in the Purple Ribbon campaign. The theme for 2017–2018 focuses on the power of bystanders: Don't stand by. Stand with.
The campaign encourages everyone has a part to play in ending violence against women. The union says it's important to be a part of the solution by speaking up and taking action when they see violence or have concerns that someone may be harmed.
It suggests that people can be a part of the solution by wearing a purple ribbon to show their support for women and girls and their commitment to ending gender-based violence. PEIUPSE/NUPGE can be a part of the solution by joining others to pin ribbons for distribution to schools, community groups, and individuals across PEI.
The annual pinning bee will be held on November 9, from 6:30 p.m. until 8 p.m. at the Confederation Centre Public Library, 145 Richmond Street, Charlottetown.
