HSABC asks members to take part in H1N1 program

'When you receive your H1N1 vaccination, you will also be offered vaccination against seasonal flu.'

Vancouver (2 Nov. 2009) - Following a protocol issued by B.C.’s medical health officer, health care workers will be offered vaccination against the H1N1 virus in British Columbia, beginning this week.

The Health Sciences Association of B.C. (HSABC/NUPGE) says this will include all HSABC members who work with vulnerable segments of the population.

"HSABC encourages members to participate in the H1N1 vaccination program," the union says in a notice posted on its website. "When you receive your H1N1 vaccination, you will also be offered vaccination against seasonal flu."

The union also notes there is 'no conclusive evidence' that taking the vaccines together either 'does or doesn't increase susceptibility' to the H1N1 virus.

"HSABC encourages members to consult their physician and to make a personal choice whether to be vaccinated for both H1N1 and seasonal flu at the same time, or separately," the union adds.
