"The work of the committee is important for all Albertans. It is a refreshing change to see this new NDP government include the voice of workers as it charts a path for the future." — Elisabeth Ballermann, President HSAA
Edmonton (16 Oct. 2015) — Premier Rachel Notley has named Health Sciences Association of Alberta (HSAA/NUPGE) President Elisabeth Ballermann to the Premier's Advisory Committee on the Economy.
Representing public and private sector health care professionals
"I'm honoured to be named to the new advisory committee, which will explore ways to develop our economy and provide long-term stability and prosperity," says Ballermann.
"I'm also privileged to represent the 24,000 health-care professionals who belong to HSAA and will work to be a voice for them and for all public and private-sector workers in Alberta."
Diverse committee membership
The Alberta government named the 10 members of the committee today. It will be chaired by Joseph Doucet, dean of the Alberta School of Business. The vice-chairs are Steve Williams, president and chief executive office of Suncor Energy Inc. and Siobhán Vipond, secretary-treasurer (and acting president) of the Alberta Federation of Labour.
Including the voice of workers positive sign for new government
"The work of the committee is important for all Albertans. It is a refreshing change to see this new NDP government include the voice of workers as it charts a path for the future. The committee strikes a balance of perspectives - business, not-for-profit and, yes, labour," says Ballermann.
"These are challenging times for Alberta, but there is also a tremendous opportunity to create something new, to build an economy with a solid foundation, one that works for all Albertans."
