“We also encourage all members who have not been affected by the floods to do what they can to help, by donating to the Red Cross or any charity of their choice, or by volunteering,” says HSAA President Elisabeth Ballermann
Edmonton (26 June 2013) - The Health Sciences Association of Alberta (HSAA/NUPGE) is donating $20,000 to the Canadian Red Cross to help Albertans affected by flooding.
“We felt it was important to be part of the efforts being made to help those who have been devastated by this unprecedented emergency, so our elected board made a decision to get money to the Red Cross as quickly as possible,” says Elisabeth Ballermann, President of HSAA, the union that represents nearly 24,000 paramedical technical, professional and general support employees in health care.
“Our members work on the front lines of health care every day, many of them in emergency situations. They understand and value the great work being done by the Red Cross on the front lines of this crisis, ensuring that the immediate needs of Albertans are being met.”
In addition to the donation to the Red Cross, HSAA/NUPGE members affected by the flooding can access the union’s Members’ Assistance Fund. Members can contact their Labour Relations Officers to find out more.
“We also encourage all members who have not been affected by the floods to do what they can to help, by donating to the Red Cross or any charity of their choice, or by volunteering,” says Ballermann
