NAPE/NUPGE becomes union of choice for more home care workers.
St. John's (04 April 2012) - The Newfoundland and Labrador Association of Public and Private Employees (NAPE/NUPGE) has been certified by the Labour Relations Board as the bargaining agent for home care workers with Horwood’s Home and Community Support Services, Inc.
NAPE President Carol Furlong said, workers voted over 99 per cent in favour of joining the union. There are 133 employees working in communities included in the Central Regional Integrated Health Authority from Eastport to Westport including the Connaigre Peninsula, a large geographical area in central Newfoundland. The bulk of the employees are from the Grand Falls – Windsor area, but are also located in Baie Verte, Springdale, Buchans, Botwood, Lewisporte, Glenwood, Gander and Glovertown.
The agency provides community support, home support, palliative care, mental health, and family services, parent and family coaching, as well as supervised visitations for Child Youth and Family Services.
This is the twenty-fourth group of home care workers that have voted to join NAPE/NUPGE.
