Demands that the government order SAHO to return to the bargaining table rejected by health minister.
Regina (15 April 2010) - Delegates attending the annual conference for the Saskatchewan Association of Health Organizations (SAHO) were greeted this week by a small army of protesters from three unions representing 25,000 health care providers.
The unions include the Saskatchewan Government and General Employees' Union (SGEU/NUPGE). They called on the province's Saskatchewan Party government to intervene in stalled contract talks with SAHO.
The other unions participating in the demonstrations were the Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE) and the Service Employees International Union (SIEU-West).
The unions have called on SAHO to return to the bargaining table. So far there's been no response. The unions have declined to ask members to vote on an "offer" made by SAHO in January, arguing that it contains significant rollback demands.
Demands by the New Democratic Party in the legislature for the government to order SAHO to return to the table have been rejected. Health Minister Don McMorris has rejected the appeal.
