OPSEU/NUPGE members are trying to resolve outstanding issues in bargaining before strike deadline.
Hamilton (15 Aug. 2012) - Hamilton Ontario March of Dimes outreach workers say they deserve a fair slice of the funding increase their employer has received.
The Local members of the Ontario Public Service Employees Union (OPSEU/NUPGE) hosted a pizza picnic for their supporters at Bayfront Park in Hamilton on August 13, in a countdown to a potential August 16 strike.
The workers unanimously rejected a final contract offer from the employer on July 24. The offer takes away benefits away from the part-time workers and erodes the hours of work for everyone.
“The employer received a three per cent increase in funding this year,” said OPSEU Vice President, Eddy Almeida. “There is no reason workers should have to work for less.”
The bargaining team was back at the table with the employer on August 14 and continues bargaining on August 15. The strike deadline is August 16, 12:01 a.m.
