Grateful survivor praises health care professionals

'I didn’t even know most of the professions existed. But these people – amazing people – gave me my life back.'

Winnipeg (28 Jan. 2011) - A compelling ad began running recently on Manitoba television stations.

A message from MGEU's Health Professionals

The video tells the real life story of how a man's life was saved by a wide range of health care professionals including paramedics, ultrasound specialists, EKG and lab technologists, pharmacists, speech pathologists, physiotherapists and case coordinators. All were vital to his survival and recovery after brain trauma.

The ad coincides with efforts by the health care professionals' component of the Manitoba Government and General Employees' Union (MGEU/NUPGE) to negotiate a new collective agreement with the province.

In the voice over during the ad, the man says, “I didn’t even know most of the professions existed. But these people – amazing people – gave me my life back.”

MGEU says the purpose of the advertising campaign is to remind Manitobans about the critical role our health professionals play when trauma or illness strikes.
