Government reset needs to focus on health care crisis: NSGEU ready to help

Halifax (07 Sept. 2018) — "Union members hope proroguing the legislature means Stephen McNeil is ready to reset the Liberal government's agenda away from attacking workers and towards working together to find solutions to fix the current crisis in health care," says Jason MacLean, President of the Nova Scotia Government and General Employees Union (NSGEU/NUPGE).

Is the Nova Scotia government ready to address its health care crisis?

"Traditionally, when a Premier prorogues the legislature, it marks a change in direction from the current path," said MacLean. "For almost 5 years this Liberal government has attacked working people. We hope the Premier is ready to admit, what is so obvious to people across Nova Scotia; health care is in crisis. The NSGEU/NUPGE is ready to work with government and help find solutions for patients, seniors and families who need reliable health care."

NSGEU/NUPGE continues the fight for improved health care 

The NSGEU/NUPGE has released 2 reports, Code Crisis and Code Critical, which outline specific solutions that would help improve the system immediately.

"Over the last 5 years this government has avoided admitting health care is in crisis, and instead has offered excuses and announcements that will take years to implement," said MacLean. "Our members live and work on the frontlines of health care and they are doing their best to hold a broken system together. Their voices have value and need to be included in addressing this crisis."

"The NSGEU/NUPGE expects to hear solutions and we are ready to be part of that process. If not, I expect we will see this government waste another 3 years while the system crumbles and Nova Scotian families suffer," said MacLean.
