The Health Sciences Association of Alberta encourages its members to attend this conference.
Edmonton (21 July 2016) — The Health Sciences Association of Alberta (HSAA/NUPGE) is encouraging its members to attend a Suicide Awareness Confernce. The Confernce is sponsored by the Legacy Place Society, in collaboration with the Calgary Police Service, the Calgary Fire Department and Alberta Health Services. It is being held on September 13, in conjunction with World Suicide Prevention Day.
Alberta receives tens of thousands of 911 calls associated with suicide or mental health every year
According to the Legacy Centre, in Alberta, tens of thousands of calls to 911 are directly associated to suicide or mental illness each year. First responders, correctional officers and members of the military — each in different ways — encounter these challenges and feel the impact they have on themselves, their families and communities.
The objectives of the Conference are to offer clinical support, promote healthy mindfulness, and share compelling stories of resiliency. This includes captivating minds and hearts as the participants focus on the struggles of mental illness while providing a lens that encourages wellness and hope.
HSAA/NUPGE will support this conference by providing members access to their labour relations fund to cover the cost of registration (note: this does not include wage replacement).
