First agreement reached in Pictou County lockout

Employees locked out by employer 'are very eager' to get back to work - Joan Jessome.

Stellarton (30 June 2010) – A tentative first agreement has been reached in the lockout of employees by the Pictou County Shared Services Authority (PCSSA).

“We are pleased to have reached a tentative agreement,” says Joan Jessome, president of the Nova Scotia Government and General Employees Union (NSGEU/NUPGE). “Members of Local 60A will be voting on the tentative agreement and if accepted, will be returning to work as soon as they can. They are very eager to get back to work.”

Members of the bargaining unit include administrators, lab technicians, maintenance operators, planning techs and senior planners. The employees issue permits for the sub-division of land, issue building permits, do building inspections and operate the waste treatment plant.
