"This is a growing sector in the union, and the more members we get, the greater strength we have when it comes to achieving better wages and safer working conditions for everyone.” — Kelly Martin, Chair, OPSEU Boards of Education and Cultural Institutions sector
Toronto (13 June 2018) — The Ontario Public Service Employees Union (OPSEU/NUPGE) welcomes the nearly 100 frontline workers at the Kenora Catholic District School Board (KCDSB), after a majority voted in favour of joining the 155,000-member union.
OPSEU/NUPGE ranks grow
“It doesn't matter if you're an early childhood educator, an educational assistant, or a lunchtime monitor: if you're doing the same work that others in your community are doing, you deserve to get the same pay," said Warren (Smokey) Thomas, OPSEU President.
“I applaud our new members in Kenora, Keewatin, and Red Lake for standing up for themselves and the important work they do. You’re part of OPSEU’/NUPGE's family, and we take care of our own," said Thomas.
Focused on better wages, safer working conditions for educators
Kelly Martin, Chair of OPSEU’s Boards of Education and Cultural Institutions sector, was thrilled to welcome the new members.
“I’m so happy that the workers at KCDSB have joined us," Martin said. "This is a growing sector in the union, and the more members we get, the greater strength we have when it comes to achieving better wages and safer working conditions for everyone.”
The Kenora Catholic District School Board educates more than 1,500 students from diverse cultures and backgrounds in 4 elementary schools and one secondary school.
