Supporters across the country will be gathering signatures on the Stop The Meter CRTC petition. The signed petitions will be used to push decision makers to put a stop the new Internet usage fees.
Vancouver (18 Feb. 2011) - Following the success of its campaign to have the Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission (CRTC) reconsider its decision to allow usage based billing (Internet metering), OpenMedia.ca has called for a national day of action on February 26th.
Steve Anderson, National Coordinator of OpenMedia.ca, explains that "this was a big win for the pro-Internet community, but this is far from over."
"The review of Internet metering is open for public comments, but we can be sure that Big Telecom is exerting significant pressure on the CRTC to move forward with less affordable Internet access. We need your help to call on the CRTC to stop the meter and end Internet caps."
Supporters across the country will be gathering signatures on the Stop The Meter CRTC petition. The signed petitions will then be sent to the CRTC.
*This is vitally important as we build our case that Canadians want open, accessible and affordable Internet access," said Anderson.
To find out more about local activities people are encouraged to check out the facebook page, Google Group or find a group near you (click here).
Anderson encourages supporters to be creative!
"Why not dress up as meter maids to spark people's curiosity, or write a Stop The Meter theme song? We'll be helping local petition drive teams to invite local media to help spread the word that the CRTC is still reviewing UBB and that this is far from being a closed case."
