FAFIA launches Campaign of Solidarity with Aboriginal Women on December 1

Please join the National Union in supporting the Campaign of Solidarity with Aboriginal Women.

Ottawa (1 Dec. 2014) – The Canadian Feminist Alliance for International Action (FAFIA), in collaboration with the Native Women’s Association of Canada (NWAC), is officially launching their Campaign of Solidarity with Aboriginal Women today.  The campaign will raise public understanding across Canada about the crisis of murders and disappearances of Aboriginal women and girls.

FAFIA and the NWAC requested formal investigations by the UN Committee on the Elimination of Discrimination Against Women (CEDAW) and the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights (IACHR) into this human rights crisis in Canada.  CEDAW and IACHR will release in early 2015 their reports on their investigation that began in 2013 into this issue.

The investigations are the first inquiries by international human rights bodies into violations of the human rights of Aboriginal women and girls in Canada.
