Enter HSAA's contest to green your workplace!

Are you greening your office? It's never too late to start, especially now that HSAA/NUPGE is providing the incentive!

HSAA/NUPGE logo Health Sciences Association of Alberta Edmonton (05 Sept. 2012) - How green is your workplace? Can you help make a difference? These are questions, the Health Sciences Association of Alberta (HSAA/NUPGE) is asking its members.

To increase interest in making workplaces more environmentally conscious, and support those who are already taking on the challenge, HSAA/NUPGE is hosting a contest to recognize members’ efforts at greening up their workplace.

Who wins? Our planet!

Individual winners will get special acknowledgement in the union's newsletter, the Challenger as well as cash prizes that total $350! That’s $150 for the winner plus four prizes of $50 for the runners’ up.

The union's message to members is, "It's never too late to implement green practices in the workplace." For members already doing green stuff, share what you’re doing and you will qualify for the prize money.

Winners will be chosen based on:

  • The number of colleagues you’ve helped to get involved; and
  • The impact your change has made to your workplace’s footprint.

Contestants need to submit a summary about their workplace greening project or initiative, with any pictures, to Denise Benedetti.

Deadline for submission is April 15, 2013.

Being green is easy!

If you don’t already, consider
bringing in your own mug and refillable water bottle
(and encouraging others to do the same!); bring your
own dishware and cutlery to work to save on paper
and styrofoam waste; investigate the recycling program currently implemented at your workplace, (i.e. paper, plastic, glass, etc.); reduce the amount of paper you use and print and set your office printer/photocopier to print double-sided; shut down your computer at the end of the day (sleep mode still draws power from the outlet); and consider using alternate modes of transportation if you currently drive to work,( i.e. bike, bus, car pool, etc.) Contact your manager and/or office admin staff to see what can be done.
