'There is much work to do.... I hope to continue this work on your behalf.'
Edmonton (13 May 2009) - Elisabeth Ballermann has been re-elected president of the Health Sciences Association of Alberta (HSAA/NUPGE).
In province-wide balloting conducted in advance of the union's May 21-22 annual general meeting, Ballermann was re-elected in a race with Travis Stroh.
Ballermann was first elected president of HSAA in 1995. Since that time HSAA has grown from a membership of 7,600 to more than 18,000 today, making it one of the largest unions in Alberta.
"There is much work to do," Ballermann said during her campaign.
"The economic crisis and current health care restructuring present immediate challenges. We must also continue efforts to increase the union’s profile, its relevance in the workplace and in members’ lives, and to provide exceptional representation for members. I hope to continue this work on your behalf."
