MGEU/NUPGE is touring the province to solicit ideas and feedback from EMS members on what the union will eventually present to the EMS Review committee, a meeting tentatively scheduled for the end of August.
Winnipeg (13 Aug. 2012) - In May, Manitoba Health announced a review of Emergency Medical Services (EMS) delivery in the provinces, which is being conducted by Reg Toews and specialists Fitch and Associates. This review is something that the Manitoba Government and General Employees' Union (MGEU/NUPGE) has been pushing toward for two years. The union is very pleased that the time has finally come to begin discussing change within the system that will make a meaningful difference to patients, paramedics, and our communities.
The announcement of a review is clearly a significant one, and as the union representing the vast majority of paramedics in Manitoba, the MGEU/NUPGE wants to ensure any and all good ideas for improvements to the system are on the table. As such, the union is launching a consultation tour involving Technical Professional Paramedical Component Director Wayne Chacun.
Chacun will be crisscrossing central and southern Manitoba conducting meetings in communities in which MGEU/NUPGE represents paramedics. The goal is to solicit ideas and feedback from EMS members on what the union will eventually present to the EMS Review committee, a meeting tentatively scheduled for the end of August.
“I want to emphasize that these kinds of reviews happen very rarely, and what we have found is that their impact can be significant and far reaching. I strongly encourage our EMS members to make every effort to attend one of the meetings in your area to share your thoughts and ideas with Wayne and other MGEU staff who will be present," said MGEU President Lois Wales.
The schedule of meetings can be found on the union website. Questions about the review or any other union related issue can be directed to the MGEU Resource Centre at 1-866-982-6438.
