Council of Unions in Nova Scotia recommends proposed agreement with Health Authority and IWK Health Centre

If ratified, the agreement provides a mediation-arbitration process that will conclude collective agreements for bargaining committees for health care, nursing, support services, and administrative professionals.

Halifax (01 May 2018) — The Council of Health Care Unions is recommending a proposed agreement with the Nova Scotia Health Authority (NSHA) and IWK Health Centre.

Mediation-arbitration process recommended for health care bargaining

On April 30, all bargaining committee members met and voted to recommend ratification of the proposal to their members.

If ratified, the agreement provides a mediation-arbitration process that will conclude collective agreements for bargaining committees for health care, nursing, support services, and administrative professionals.

The Council of Unions is made up of the Nova Scotia Government and General Employees Union (NSGEU/NUPGE), the Nova Scotia Nurses' Union (NSNU), the Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE) and Unifor. Each union will conduct information sessions to provide details and answer questions to its members.

Members will then participate in a ratification vote that will take place in the coming weeks.

The Council of Unions will be under a media black out until members have the opportunity to see and vote on the proposal.
