Outstanding issues such as wages, parental leave and contracting out remain unresolved.
Halifax (19 Dec. 2012) — Talks between Saint Mary's Univesity and members of the Nova Scotia Government & Service Employees' Union (NSGEU/NUPGE) employed at the institution have reached an impasse.
While some progress was made during negotiations, the union and management could not reach agreement on substantial issues such as contracting out, parental leave, shift premiums, severance pay and wages. NSGEU/NUPGE has informed the employer it would be requesting the assistance of a conciliation officer to assist with bargaining.
It is likely that meeting dates with a conciliation officer will not be set until January 2013. The union will alert members to any updates as they are available.
