“Many Manitobans don’t know that these dedicated health care workers are actually treated like casual employees."
For years now, home care workers and mental health proctors in the Community Support Component have been working to achieve equivalent full-time (EFT) hours at the bargaining table.
“Many Manitobans don’t know that these dedicated health care workers are actually treated like casual employees. They can’t rely on regular, full-time hours,” said negotiator Sheila Gordon. “As a result, the home care program is having a hard time keeping staff, and it’s difficult for clients to receive the kind of consistent care they deserve.”
To help back up the Bargaining Committee’s case for EFTs at the bargaining table, the MGEU/NUPGE is airing two television commercials throughout January. Thanks to all those members who participated in the ads…with your help, we’re sending the message that home care workers and mental health proctors provide a vital service that saves Manitobans money every day. But to keep the program strong and ensure clients get the best care possible, regular, full-time jobs must be achieved this round of bargaining.
