On February 29, 2012, a motion was passed in the BC Legislature to declare March Community Social Services Awareness month.
Vancouver (08 March 2012) - Front-line community social service workers and agencies help build safe, healthy, and caring communities across B.C. During difficult periods, or when a crisis arises, community-based social services are available to help individuals and families deal with life's challenges.
Community Social Services Awareness month is a province-wide public awareness campaign aimed at shining a spotlight on the vital role the sector plays in our lives and in our society.
But chronic underfunding to B.C.'s community social service agencies over the past decade has resulted in cuts to vital programs and services and growing wait-lists. Organizations are stretched to the breaking point. Individuals and families are suffering.
A campaign targeted at the B.C. Premier, Christy Clark, urges the public to let her know how important these services are and why its important to properly fund them. For more information on this campaign - click here.
